Having OP is essential if you would like to be able to run admin commands in-game for things like bans, whitelisting, etc.
This tutorial will only cover basic usage of the OP command. If you would like to have more in depth permission controls, consider using a plugin such as LuckPerms for permission management.
Before you Start
Make sure you are logged into the game panel and make sure you select the server you would like to op you (or another player) on. Please also make sure that the server has been started and is marked as online.
For this tutorial you will be using your server's console. The console will allow you to run commands on your server but you can also type these commands in-game if you have OP (or permission to do so via a permission manager plugin).
How to give a player op
To give a specific player operator status (OP) on your server, type following command into your server's console and press enter:
op USERNAME
Make sure to replace USERNAME with the exact Minecraft username or UUID of the player you want to op.
In the example below we'll be giving Steve operator permissions:
How to remove a player’s op (deop)
To remove a specific player’s operator status (OP) on your server, type following command into your server's console and press enter:
deop USERNAME
Make sure to replace USERNAME with the exact Minecraft username or UUID of the player you want to remove op from.
